About

Designing for what people find hard to say

UX/Product Designer creating emotionally intelligent digital experiences through research, storytelling and interaction design.

Practice

I came to design sideways rather than by plan, and stayed because of what the work asks of you. Designing well means paying close attention to people who are mid-sentence, mid-decision, or mid-difficulty, and then being careful about what you build on top of what you heard.

Most of my projects sit close to something tender. A health portal where the honest answer to a question is embarrassing. A couple trying to stay close across nine time zones. A partner at home managing a household alone while trying to sound fine on a video call. In each case the interface is the least interesting part; what matters is which signals a system chooses to notice, and which it quietly discards.

So my practice is built around evidence discipline. I separate what I observed from what I concluded from what I am merely proposing, and I label it, in the work and on this site. It makes for less confident-sounding case studies. It also makes them true, and it means that when I do make a strong claim, it is worth something.

I work across research and interface craft rather than choosing one. I run the interviews, do the synthesis, draw the flows, build the design system, and then sit in usability sessions watching my own assumptions come apart. I am at my best on problems where the emotional stakes are real and the product answer is not obvious.

How I got here

2021
Qualified as a UX designer with CareerFoundry, then took their UI specialisation. A visual design course the same year is where the UI half of my practice actually started, and it is the reason I do not treat research and craft as two jobs.
Dec 2021
First professional design role, at World Simplified UG. Converting web templates into iOS and Android, designing the company's own site and app, and handing CSS starter templates to the frontend developers through Figma.
Jun 2022
Zalando SE in Berlin, as a product designer on Zalando Plus. Research through service blueprinting to a pilot launch, inside an organisation large enough that the seams between teams were the real problem.
Oct 2023
IoT Venture GmbH in Darmstadt, as the company's only designer. Two years across a connected-bike app, a partner dashboard and the white-label apps built on the same platform, ending with the 3.0 release.
Aug 2024
Started an M.A. in Interaction Design at the University of North Texas, which I am still reading for. The capstone is on emotional continuity for military families during a deployment.
Jun 2025
Merlinmines, remote, designing SpellCarver for the in-house engineers who use it. Three months, three iterations, and the first UI patterns the product had.

Away from the screen

I am usually still at the computer. When I am not working, I am catching up on the season's anime and manga.

I travel as often as I can, and mostly for the parts of a place you only get by being in it: how people there do ordinary things, and what they eat. I am a foodie and I am not going to pretend otherwise.

And I like meeting people. They are most of what makes a place worth having gone to, and the rest of what makes a project worth doing. My bucket list says I am adventurous. I am inclined to believe it.

I am most useful early, when the problem is still the wrong shape.
